Patching Concrete
Patching concrete is made easy with Crystalfix. Firstly, evaluate the problem. Is it a leakage, structural, aesthetic problem, or maybe even a tripping hazard. Decide whether Crystalfix will be the best option to overcome the specific problem.
To repair small damaged area’s, such as scaling, tie holes or impact damage, Crystalfix can be used on its own, as a stiff mortar. Where the patch is more than 3mm thick, we suggest you first patch with a sand and cement render, the add Crystalfix over the repair.
It is important to thoroughly clean the area, remove loose material, and wet the area immediately prior to application.
Buying a bag of “mortar mix” will ensure both fresh and nicely graded material for a superior result. Put another way, don’t be tempted to use that old bag of cement in the back shed mixed with that dirty sand full of grass seeds.
The smaller (lesser mass) the repair, the faster it will be prone to drying out, thus, it is imperative that you pay attention to sound curing practices. The repair “must” remain wet for at least 24 hours. For small area’s, a roll of tape and some plastic will work well.
Aside from curing, the hydration will encourage crystal growth through the repair into the original substrate, helping to form the repair and the existing structure into one unified piece.
